| Some wise guy said that World War III would be sparked off by disputes over fresh water supplies and not over oil and judging by the row over the Cauveri river water between two Indian states Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, I find the prediction entirely plausible. Potable water is in short supply every where in the country and in most cases the shortage is created either intentionally or caused by gross mismanagement – listen to this:- \"There is no shortage of water in the world, but there is a crisis of management of water supplies,\" Asit Bitwas, head of the Third World Centre for Water Management in Mexico City, told Reuters during a meeting of 1,000 experts on water in Stockholm. So by keeping water in short supply some people viz politicians and contractors who sell water r laughing all the way to the bank! In my small town too, like in most hill stations in India there is a tremendous shortage of water and by a conservative estimate, I think at least 40% of the population spends 90% of their time rummaging around for water. Wish I had started selling water a long time back.. I would have had all the money needed for my photography exhibition in Delhi! |
